Top 10 Road Trip Routes in Cyprus for 2026
Cyprus is ideal for road trips because the main cities, beaches, mountain villages and archaeological sites are all within relatively short driving distances. A rental car lets you build your own route and stop where public transport does not reach easily.
1. Larnaca to Ayia Napa Coastal Route
Drive east from Larnaca toward Ayia Napa, with stops such as Mackenzie Beach, Hala Sultan Tekke, Cape Greco National Forest Park and the sea caves. This is one of the easiest full-day coastal drives on the island.
2. Limassol to Paphos via the Coast
Travel west from Limassol toward Paphos and stop at Kourion, Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s Rock) and Kouklia. The direct motorway drive is short, but allowing half a day makes the route far more rewarding.
3. Paphos to Akamas and Latchi
Drive north from Paphos through Coral Bay toward Polis and Latchi. For Akamas, stay on suitable public paved roads with a standard rental car. Rough tracks and unpaved routes can fall outside normal rental and insurance conditions, so use a boat trip or organised 4×4 excursion for places such as the Blue Lagoon when appropriate.
4. Troodos Mountains Circuit
Start from Limassol, Nicosia or Larnaca and build a loop through Platres, Kakopetria, Omodos and the Troodos area. Mountain roads are scenic but winding, so allow extra time and check winter road conditions before travelling.
5. Nicosia to Kyrenia via Agios Dometios / Metehan
If your rental agreement specifically permits Green Line travel, the practical vehicle crossing in Nicosia is Agios Dometios / Metehan. Ledra Street and Ledra Palace are pedestrian crossings and should not be used for taking a rental car across.
Infinite Car Rentals customers must obtain advance permission, have the crossing confirmed on the rental agreement and purchase the required temporary local third-party insurance at the authorised crossing point. Infinite Car Rentals’ Republic of Cyprus insurance does not extend into Northern Cyprus. Read our 2026 Green Line rental-car guide before travelling.
6. Limassol to Larnaca via Governor’s Beach
Follow the south coast from Limassol toward Larnaca, with possible stops at Governor’s Beach, Zygi and the Larnaca seafront. It is an easy day route combining swimming, seafood and city stops.
7. Larnaca to Troodos via Lefkara
Leave Larnaca and drive inland through Lefkara before continuing toward the Troodos foothills. This route combines traditional village streets, mountain scenery and a clear change of landscape from the coast.
8. Paphos to Polis and Latchi
The northwest drive from Paphos leads toward Polis, Latchi and the Baths of Aphrodite area. It is a good choice for travellers who prefer quieter coastal scenery and seafood stops.
9. Cape Greco Scenic Loop
Starting from Ayia Napa or Protaras, drive through the Cape Greco area and stop at Konnos Beach, viewpoints and the sea caves. This is a short scenic route that works well for an afternoon or sunset drive.
10. Vouni to Omodos Wine Route
Drive between Vouni and Omodos through the Limassol wine region. The roads are narrower than the motorway network, so take your time and use a designated driver if visiting wineries.
2026 Cyprus Road Trip Tips
- Drive on the left and follow posted speed limits.
- Carry your driving licence, identification and rental agreement.
- Refuel before longer mountain drives where stations are less frequent.
- Do not take a standard rental car onto unsuitable unpaved or off-road tracks.
- For Green Line travel, get rental-company permission first and buy the required local insurance at the crossing.
- Never drink and drive; use a designated driver or taxi after winery or bar visits.
